A collaboration with Jud Bergeron, a San Francisco artist. This process transformed his paper sculpture series into works cast in bronze.

Using traditional mold-making processes resulted in the loss of the original paper sculpture. To ensure its preservation, we utilized 3D point cloud scanning and printed an identical form for further use. This innovative approach created a digital representation, enabling faithful replication with a 3D-printed mold. This work-around preserved the original paper artwork and opened doors for future possibilities.

Our collaboration fused tradition and technology, pushing artistic boundaries while preserving legacies.

LIDAR Scans

  • Raw source mesh before corners and edges were cleaned

  • Raw mesh data captured with LIDAR scanner viewed with triangle data

  • Raw surface color capture data

  • A LIDAR camera was used to capture raw point cloud data. The resulting data was converted into thousands of triangles. All edges and corners were cleaned at millimeter scale.
